In March 2024, the Pharmalys Academy of Clinical research Excellence (PACE) celebrated a remarkable achievement with the graduation of its inaugural cohort. This landmark event highlighted the programme’s commitment to advancing clinical research education and fostering professional growth within Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.
The ceremony was a memorable event, bringing together graduates, instructors, industry professionals, and distinguished speakers to celebrate the Class of 2023-24. Families and loved ones joined the ceremony remotely, sharing this significant milestone with the graduates. Members of the Pharmalys team were also in attendance, including PACE mentors who had guided and supported the graduates throughout their journey. These graduates represent a new generation of clinical research professionals, ready to make meaningful contributions to the global health research landscape. For them, this moment marked the culmination of nine transformative months of intensive learning, hands-on internships, and professional development.
Highlights of the Ceremony
The evening began with a heartfelt address from Marieme Ba, founder and CEO of PACE and Pharmalys. Marieme reflected on the vision behind the programme and its role in addressing the global need for skilled professionals in health research. The atmosphere throughout the ceremony was warm and celebratory, with speeches from esteemed guests, and instructors, who also reflected on the challenges and rewarding experiences they encountered throughout the PACE journey. There were moments for networking and shared reflection on journey’s significance.
Graduates were presented with their diplomas during the official ceremony, a testament to their hard work and determination. As a special keepsake, each student received a traditional African-patterned sachet, secured with a bespoke pin.
The evening culminated in a lively quiz, where each table formed into teams to answer questions on general knowledge, Africa-specific facts, and more. The activity offered a great way to attendees to bond and celebrate the evening’s successes.
